A note from your host

Cari amici,

We're getting the girls together for a weekend Laura will never forget, on the shores of Lake Como. I've booked us a place on the lake, sorted the flights and the getting‑around, and lined up a few surprises along the way. All you have to do is say yes and pack a bag.

This little book has everything you need to know. It would mean so much to have you all there.

With love, Gatsby

Where you'll be

Bellano, Lake Como

Bellano is a storybook village on the quieter, more romantic eastern shore of Lake Como, all cobbled lanes, pastel houses and water lapping at the edge. Framed by mountains, it has been a lakeside retreat since Roman times.

You won't need to plan a thing, I've got our days sorted, but for the curious, here's a taste of the beauty all around us.

The lake around us

Things to see

A little of what's on our doorstep, for the curious. No need to plan; consider it inspiration.

01
Orrido di Bellano
Right in the village: a dramatic gorge of suspended walkways winding past waterfalls and thundering torrents.
02
Varenna
A five‑minute ferry across the water, the lake's prettiest sunset town, with the Lovers' Walk and Villa Monastero's gardens.
03
Bellagio
The "Pearl of Lake Como", elegant villas, cobbled lanes of silk boutiques, and Villa Melzi's romantic gardens.
04
Villa del Balbianello
Fairy‑tale terraced gardens on a wooded point, you've seen them in James Bond and Star Wars.
05
Sentiero del Viandante
An ancient lakeside path; the Bellano to Varenna stretch is the loveliest walk on the lake.
06
On the water
Ferries and private boats hop between the villages, the only way to truly see Como is from the lake.
Buon appetito

A taste of the lake

Lake Como cooking is simple and soulful, lake fish, mountain cheeses, long lunches and slow aperitivi as the sun drops.

Risotto al pesce persicoCreamy risotto crowned with butter‑fried perch fillets, the lake's signature dish.
MissoltiniSun‑dried lake shad, grilled and served with toasted polenta. Intensely savoury.
Polenta unciaSoft polenta layered with Alpine cheese and browned butter. Pure comfort.
Aperitivo hourAn Aperol spritz or Negroni with nibbles, terrace‑side, as the lake turns gold.
Gelato passeggiataA cone in hand for a slow stroll along the waterfront. Obligatory.
Local winesCrisp whites and Valtellina reds from the surrounding mountain slopes.
La dolce vita awaits
What to expect

Weather on the lake

We're going in early October, that lovely golden edge of autumn. Days are jacket‑and‑sunglasses weather; evenings cool down, and a shower is always possible, so bring layers.

Getting there

Fly into Milan

Three airports serve Milan and the lake. Pick whatever works for you, book it, and send me your confirmation so I can sort your airport pickup.

Milan Malpensa (MXP)
The main international hub. About 50 km from Milan city centre (~50 min), and roughly 85 km to Bellano (~1 hr 25 min by car).
Bergamo (BGY)
Best for low‑cost direct flights. About 50 km from Milan city centre (~1 hr), and roughly 75 km to Bellano (~1 hr 20 min by car).
Milan Linate (LIN)
Milan's closest airport, just ~8 km from the city centre (~15–20 min), and roughly 80 km to Bellano (~1 hr 20 min by car).

Prefer the scenic route? Bellano has its own train station, with direct trains from Milano Centrale in about 1 hr 10 min along the lake. Aim to arrive Friday: a morning flight means you won't miss a moment of the first day.

The best part

What's covered

Consider it handled. I'm taking care of your flight, your airport transfers to and from the villa, the accommodation, and all the activities I organise. Just bring a little spending money for meals out and any small extras, and your best holiday spirit.

Good to know

The little details

Do I need to plan anything?

Not at all. Just get yourself to Milan and I'll handle the rest. Once the group chat is up, feel free to start planning bits together, and I'll fill in the gaps with activities and things to do.

Do I get my own space?

Everyone gets their own bed, and most of you will have your own room.

Can we plan something for Laura?

Please do! If you'd like to organise a little surprise or dinner for her, we'll coordinate it in the group chat.

Will there be a group chat?

Yes. I'll set one up this week once everyone's confirmed, so we can all coordinate in one place.

Anything to bring for check‑in?

Your passport or ID, it's needed to register at the villa. It's a no‑smoking house.
